Tonsillitis is more common in children and is usually caused by a viral infection or bacterial infection like strep throat. Sinusitis can be acute (less than four weeks), subacute (four to 12 weeks), or chronic (more than 12 weeks). It can be caused by a wide variety of viruses. Symptoms occur a few days after exposure and last one to two weeks.
